Morris County Baby Photographer on First Birthday Pictures

What helps with a first birthday session?

Every photographer is a little different with their sessions, what I feel is best is when I know the family before the session begins, so I offer cake smash sessions only to clients that we’ve worked with before. Cake smashes are an exclusive benefit to our current clients.

Why do I do this? Simply stated, it’s the vibe. Do you feel an energy when you interact with someone? Babies feel it more than us. My theory is babies are so intune with feeling because that is a method they use to understand situations since they can’t verbalize their thoughts and feelings yet. In a way, it’s unfortunate many of us lose this ability; this innate intuition. For me, because of what I do for a living, I can’t be closed off emotionally, It helps me to have an open heart and be open and I feel I can get into that creative space when I’m comfortable around the client.

In turn, It’s been my experience that babies feel this sense, too. If a friendship/relationship hasn’t been established beforehand, I’m telling you the session is not going to go as well as it could. it’s so important that everyone feels a low level of stress and a happy energy going into these sessions.

A birthday milestone photo session is a very special time in a baby’s life, even though they may not realize it. The first birthday is when they can usually start eating solid foods, they’ve reached the ability to sit up and crawl usually by now, some are even standing and walking by now. In a baby’s first year of life, there is so much growth, not just for the baby, but in parenthood as well, right? How much personal growth have you had as a parent in your baby’s first year? This is a great time for celebrating your family’s growth, not just for your baby. Give yourself some credit, parents! Enjoy the cake, too! You deserve it.
