morris county photographer starts a tattoo project
Is it just me, or does anyone else have a fascination with tattoos? When I photograph people with tattoos, I get a rush. I don’t know exactly why, but I do. If you don’t know me, I own Millie Dee Photography studio in Roxbury Township, NJ. I specialize in newborn babies and Moms to be during their pregnancy for maternity portraits. I’m not exclusively newborn and maternity, I also take headshots as well, but that is basically all I do; the babies and Moms keep us busy enough at the studio. (Oh, I am also a volunteer photographer for one of my son’s baseball teams, so I guess I shoot a little bit of sports, too).
Although I’ve always been a firm believer in having a specialty, I also believe that growth is necessary for the creative juices; and how do I grow? I get uncomfortable. I “step out of the box” as the saying goes and I am committing to stepping a little further out than I have before, later this year. The new project is this tattoo project.
I have had one lonely tattoo since I was 18 years old and this year, at 53, my daughter and I got matching tattoos, so I’ve added a second inked spot on my body. I don’t plan on getting anymore, this tattoo was my daughter’s idea and she designed it and it has more meaning that what I’ll get into here, but I think that was the spark I needed to finally write this idea on paper and get going with it.
I’m not even sure if I want to put this blog out honestly until I’m a little further into the project than I am right now.I was going to post and ask who out there wants to participate, but let me see if word of mouth can get something going for now and then once I have a few taken and figure out what I’m planning to do with all of this, I’ll post… but I’m really excited…so excited that it’s 11 pm on the saturday night before mother’s day and this is what i’m doing…writing a blog.. haha.
Are there things you’ve always been wanting to do and putting off due to lack of time? Maybe this is your sign to go for it! : D
